India struggles to contain the COVID-19 virus, taking a toll worldwide.
Our economist and expert on India, Bert Burger, recently sat down with Robert Bowman at Supply Chain Brain to discuss the COVID-19 situation in India and its impact on the rest of the world. Bert shares that while India was quick to lockdown and prevent the spread of disease in 2020, this year they are struggling to vaccinate their population on par with other countries like the United States and the United Kingdom.
While India has a large capacity to manufacture COVID-19 vaccines, at the time of this interview only 14% of the population had received their first dose. Bert shares the impact this has on India’s economy and any hopes for strong GDP growth in the future. He also explores the impact India’s COVID-19 spikes are having on the global supply chain and lessons the world can learn from the devastating outbreak in India.
